Cruz participated in some route-running and returned kicks with special teams but did not participate in 1-on-1 drills and only played a few snaps during 11-on-11 drills.

Cornerback Eli Apple, who was hit in the knee during Friday’s game, did not practice but worked with a trainer on the sideline.

“I am fine”, Apple said.

The Giants wide receiver was limited in training camp practice on Sunday after missing the team’s first preseason game against the Dolphins Friday with a tight groin.

After the second-string unit struggled to protect Ryan Nassib, which led to three turnovers in Friday’s game, McAdoo began inserting third-string guys such as Emmet Cleary in with the second-string unit during Sunday’s practice. “He’ll get treatment tonight and we’ll take a look at him tomorrow”. “It was just an uncomfortable feeling”.

After missing almost two seasons, any injury Cruz has will raise eyebrows. “That’s my responsibility. We didn’t get enough balls in the air to them, and we need to take care of that this week”.

“I’m not frustrated. I just have to listen to my body and make sure I’m going about this the right way”.

Thomas is the only player remaining on the PUP list after defensive tackle Jay Bromley returned to practice on Sunday. He had surgery on his ankle to remove bone spurs this spring.

Wide receiver Geremy Davis (hamstring), fullback Will Johnson (stinger), and Kerry Wynn (groin) also did not practice on Sunday.

“It feels good to be back on the field finally”, Bromley said.

Middle linebacker Keenan Robinson also returned to practice after being sidelined for almost a week with a groin injury. “Adam is going to have to fight his way back into the mix”.

Ben McAdoo said at various times throughout the off-season and training camp that the Giants would be throwing their rookies into the fire and not be afraid to rely on them.

Center Weston Richburg tried to take some of the blame off backup quarterback Ryan Nassib’s terrible showing against Miami, saying the Giants’ offensive line didn’t do Nassib any favors.
