Turkey issues arrest warrant for ex-footballer Hakan Sukur over failed coup
Ankara has repeatedly said the July 15 coup attempt was organized by followers of Gulen and his FETO group.

But many Turks are angered by what they see as a lack of Western sympathy over a violent coup attempt by a rogue faction in the Turkish military using fighter jets, helicopters and tanks in which 240 people died.
Think others should know about this?
Turkey’s government has said the coup was organized by the followers of Fetullah Gulen, who lives in self-imposed exile in the USA since 1999.
The U.S. Vice President will be the highest-ranking U.S. official to Visit Turkey since the failed putsch.
The claim is a reference to the organisation of US-based preacher Fethullah Gulen, blamed by Erdogan and his allies for the coup.
Yildirim on Saturday said that the United States had improved its attitude on the issue of Gulen’s extradition, but he did not elaborate on this. The United States has so far refused to do so.
Mr Yildirim on Saturday said that the USA had improved its attitude on the issue of Mr Gulen’s extradition, but he did not elaborate on this. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan accuses the cleric, a one-time ally, of plotting the coup- charges Gulen denies.
But Prime Minister Binali Yildrim reiterated that the Vice President’s visit would not open up discussion of compromise on the issue.
Foreign minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that of the 208 diplomatic personnel serving in foreign posts recalled following the coup bid, 32 had not complied and had fled to other countries.
But he resigned in 2013 after a corruption probe – siding with Gulen. But Turkish officials say it points to the extent to which Gulen had penetrated all state institutions.
WITH a thorough shake-up of its armed forces, a reassessment of foreign policy and the biggest purge in its modern history, Turkey has undergone a transformation in the month since the July 15 coup bid.

Washington has said it would need evidence of the cleric’s involvement, and says the regular extradition process must be allowed to take its course.
