A 34-year-old woman and the assailant died in hospital on Sunday, police said.
Swiss media are reporting the suspect as a 27-year-old Swiss man.
The attack occurred as the train neared the station in Salez, close to the Liechtenstein border. Police said surveillance video from inside the train showed the man pouring the flammable liquid out on the train’s floor and setting it on fire.
The attacker was on fire as he lunged towards six passengers – including a six-year-old child – with a knife during the horrifying incident yesterday. Police in Switzerland say a Swiss man set a fire and stabbed people on a tr.
St. Gallen cantonal polices spokesman Bruno Metzger said: “Among the injured is at least one child”.
Police are also ruling out the possibility that the train attack was an act of terrorism or otherwise politically or religiously motivated.
Five other people were also injured in the incident.
Mr Kruesi did not comment on whether the attacker’s religious affiliation was known to police, who on Saturday evening (local time) searched his home.
He said it was unclear if the attacker knew any of the victims.
Mr Kruesi denied reports that the man had targeted one specific woman on the train, dousing her with the flammable liquid.
Police said none of the victims were in the proper state to talk.
Some 90 rescue workers took part in Saturday’s operation, including police, firefighters, ambulances and three rescue helicopters, police said.

According to the statement, the Swiss authority has not found any criminal record of the attacker.
