However, Port Authority police are evacuating the terminal at this time to be cautious, Pentangelo said.
Police said that all flights in and out of JFK have been canceled.
Evacuations of the JFK terminal are underway as the NYPD are investigating the shots fired and are searching for a suspect. There are no reports of any injuries reported.
Panic at NY airport after reports of shots fired was posted in World of TheNews International – https://www.thenews.com.pk on August 15, 2016 and was last updated on August 15, 2016.
Pictures on social media showed large crowds waiting outside Terminal 8 and a heavy police presence.
An evacuation of JFK’s Terminal 8 was under way after the reports of gunfire in the departures area, CNN reported on its website, quoting a spokesman for the Port Authority of NY and New Jersey, which operates the airport.
Sky’s US Correspondent Hannah Thomas-Peter, in NY, said: “The NYPD have told me that nobody is in custody and no injuries have been reported”.
Police also closed Terminal 1 after receiving additional reports of shots being fired there, as well. A roadway heading into the airport was also shut down for a short time.
Traffic in an out of the airport came to a stop as police officers were pressed to get vehicles in an out while passengers wandered nearby.
At Terminal 1, an AFP journalist was among passengers stranded on a plane on the tarmac for an hour and a half.
