Eagles QB Wentz (ribs) hopes for quick return
“Heck, I’d love to play tomorrow”.

Wentz, the No. 2 pick in the 2016 National Football League draft, never had a rib injury before Thursday night, when Tampa Bay linebacker Micah Awe planted his helmet in Wentz’s ribcage.
“I’ll have to be cleared for the game situations, live contact. We’ll have to wait and see what the doctors recommend”.
Doctors have provided no timetable for a return, but Wentz said he’s eyeing the September 1 preseason finale against the New York Jets as a possibility. The goal is hopefully in preseason I’ll be ready to go, but you never know with these things. It hurts pretty good.
“This is the first time I’ve ever had a rib injury”, Wentz said. He tried to practice on Saturday, but was limited. I went and got the x-rays and the CT scan.
Last week, Doug Pederson intimated that he expected Kendricks to return Saturday, but he has yet to take the practice field since suffering the injury on August 9.
Wentz has a cracked rib on his right side, the product of a big helmet-to-ribs hit from Bucs linebacker Micah Awe on Thursday night (see story).
Eagles rookie quarterback Carson Wentz was among those sidelined from Sunday evening’s practice at Lincoln Financial Field.
Rookie running back Wendell Smallwood, Wentz’s roommate, said the quarterback mentioned how “hurt he was” on the play that caused the injury even before the injury was diagnosed.
“It’s many mental reps”, Wentz said. That’s part of being a backup quarterback. It hurts, pretty much everything I do.
For now while he’s on the shelf, it’s all about mental reps.

Wentz had an up-and-down National Football League debut on Thursday night, but certainly gave Eagles fans plenty of reasons to be excited about the future. “So that’s definitely what I’m going to do”.
