Authorities: Man accused of killing Georgia officer arrested
Officer Tim Smith was shot to death while investigating reports of a suspicious person in the city, located just south of Macon in middle Georgia.

Though Smith returned fire, the suspect, later identified as Deeds, got away, authorities said.
He should be considered armed and unsafe.
He was fatally shot after encountering the subject and exiting his vehicle, Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Scott Whitley said. Officer Smith exited his patrol vehicle to investigate and was shot by the individual.
She also said that 40 have been “married” to Islamic extremist fighters.
Smith, a 2009 graduate of the ABAC police academy, joined the Eastman Police Department in 2011.
The shooting occurred outside the Gallery Apartments when three officers responded to a call about people breaking into cars, Wallace said.
Smith had been with Eastman police for more than five years, the GBI said.
Two children were found dead under a neighbor’s house Sunday after their mother matter-of-factly told someone helping her move that she had drowned them in a bathtub, authorities said. He was taken to a local hospital where he died.

This incident is the latest in a string of fatal shootings of law enforcement officers across the country amid an outcry about the deaths of unarmed African Americans at the hands of police.
Both juvenile suspects are in custody. The man stabbed the officer in the face before another officer shot the suspect in the abdomen, police said.

Eight people ranging in age from 10 to 70 were transported to hospitals for treatment of injuries suffered as they rushed to leave the mall, the police chief said.
