Police are responding to a call of reported shots fired in New York’s JFK Airport Sunday night. “There are no injuries”.

There is a substantial police presence at JFK and LaGuardia airports, the port authority said.

The Port Authorities quick reaction and smooth coordination with the NYPD lead to a great deployment of police men in both Kennedy and La Guardia Airports saving lives and preventing injuries. The Federal Aviation Administration ordered a brief ground stop at the airport for an unspecified security incident.

Sky’s US Correspondent Hannah Thomas-Peter, in NY, said: “The NYPD have told me that nobody is in custody and no injuries have been reported”.

Several flights leaving from Terminals 1 and 8 are reported to be canceled, according to the website.

Terminals 1 and 8 were evacuated after the reports first came in, the PA said.

Al Jazeera’s Mike Hanna, reporting from NY, said there was a general sense of panic and chaos at the “immensely” busy airport. The Van Wyck Expressway approaching the airport also was shut down. However in the midst of the evacuation, some flights were diverted and others were held on the tarmac. Photos posted on social media show crowds gathering as the terminal was evacuated. The Inquisitr will update this story as more information becomes available.

“We have no actual confirmation of shots fired”, he said.
