De la Cruz suffered the contusion after taking a comebacker off his knee at the end of the fourth inning. X-rays came back negative and the Braves are labeling de la Cruz as day-to-day. “He got squared up pretty good”. It was his second multihomer game this season and the eighth of his career.

Diamondbacks 9, Mets 0 – At New York: Last-place Arizona rattled Noah Syndergaard with four more stolen bases, then broke open the game in a six-run sixth inning that included Chris Owings’ bases-loaded triple and rolled to a rout of New York to complete a sweep. He walked two and struck out two in his third start since returning to the rotation.
Brewers manager Craig Counsell said he has a “good appreciation” for how hard it is for Rangers slugger Prince Fielder to be forced to quit baseball after a second neck surgery. Fielder spent his first seven major league seasons in Milwaukee, where he and Counsell were teammates from 2007-2011.
“The game really never lets anybody go when they completely want to, ” Counsell said. “It’s sad it has to happen like that”.
Just before the start of the ninth inning, Atlanta Braves first base coach Eddie Perez made Chris Carter aware that Milwaukee had accomplished a rare feat.
RHP Julio Teheran (right lat strain) is scheduled for a side session Thursday. It was also a positive offensive performance from Nick Markakis (2-5, RBI) and Freddie Freeman (1-2, 2 BB, R, RBI), but on a day when the pitching was ghastly, the production from the aforementioned trio wasn’t enough. Anderson recovered and kept the Braves off the board the rest of the way, ending his night with a strikeout of Matt Kemp to cap an eight-pitch battle one out into the sixth.
NOTES: Braves RHP Julio Teheran will throw a bullpen session this week, and if all goes well, will follow with a minor league rehab start as he works his way back from a strained right lat that has sidelined him since August 2. He only permitted the two runs in six-plus frames. He’s on the 15-day disabled list with a left oblique strain.
OF Domingo Santana went hitless in two at-bats Tuesday as he continued his rehab assignment with Class A Wisconsin. Asked if he’d like Gomez back, Counsell said, “I don’t know what’s going on with Carlos this year. He enjoyed it here”.
Making his second start of the season, Roberto Hernandez (1-1) gave up five runs and seven hits in four innings. He made 13 starts before the demotion and had just two quality starts, none in his last six.
