Miami Marlins’ Giancarlo Stanton expected to be out for the season

Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton is likely out for the rest of the season after MRI results showed a Grade 3 strain to his left groin on Sunday.

Dioner Navarro scored from third base in the eighth inning on a strikeout/wild pitch, leading the Chicago White Sox to an 8-7 win over the Miami Marlins on Saturday night at Marlins Park.Rookie Jason Coats started the two-run, eighth-inning rally with a single.

This is the third consecutive season Stanton’s campaign has ended prematurely due to injury, and it is a major blow to the Marlins, who are chasing their first postseason berth since 2003. Stanton only played 74 games previous year due to breaking his left hand on June 27th. Blame for the Marlins’ 12-year playoff drought lies entirely with ownership and the front office. “We’ll see how he handles the first few games and go from there, ” Ventura said. Giancarlo Stanton hit a fly ball to right field and after Adam Eaton misplayed the ball, Stanton tried for two.

“We’re putting our list together of options and he’s an available player, so he’ll be on that list and we’ll see where it goes”, said Hill of Rodriguez, who was released by NY on Friday and is expected to clear waivers today. Stanton, this year’s Home Run Derby victor, leads the Marlins with 25 homers and 70 RBIs while batting.244.

“We’re going to look at everything”, Hill said.

Like so many fantasies we’ve had during wiffle balls games in the backyard, Schoop drove a 0-1 pitch into the left field seats with two runners on.

“I’m not doing too much to help us win”, Sale said. He is batting.275 with 16 home runs and 71 RBIs.

He does, however, have Miami ties, and he does present at least some level of marketability, especially considering he’s just four home runs away from 700 for his career. He had helped ease the loss of Wie-Yin Chen, but now the Marlins must scramble for yet another starter for the stretch run.

The Marlins improve to 4-8 in August while keeping Sale (14-6) winless in six starts since July 2. Obviously it’s not a very good sign when you see that.

Conley gave up five runs in four innings Saturday and said he has been pitching with soreness in his pitching hand that has been getting worse. And the injuries are one thing, but as we’re seeing with Trout, when a great, exciting player consistently puts up elite regular-season numbers as his team consistently finishes out of the money, it starts to get frustrating.
