UI Refresh, Menu Changes, Folders
But that’s not it.

Our beta for PS4’s upcoming 4.00 update, codenamed Shingen, rolls out soon for everyone included in the public beta program. Trophy improvements will let users see trophies offline, and in a way that highlights their rarity.
First up is the UI refresh with new system backgrounds, and updates to popup notifications and the What’s New tab. I happen to think the PS4 has the best console UI and apparently Sony agrees, saying that the “overall look and feel of the UI remains the same – it just has a fresh coat of paint”.
The beta is set to begin in “early August”, and you have until then to sign up to participate.
The Quick Menu has been made even quicker and easier to use. Like the abovementioned quick menu, the revised share screen – which comes into view when you use the share button – will only cover a portion of the screen. Finding the best Quick Menu to fit your needs?
Sony has also given a similar overhaul to the Share Menu, which appears once the share button on Dualshock 4 is pressed. The new menu will only cover a small portion of the screen which will, again, allow players to stay at least semi-immersed in their gameplay. The Share Menu has also been changed, while Twitter video clips can now be as long as 140 seconds. With this update, we’re adding functionality to create folders on PS4’s content launcher and Library. This will help collect your favourite games and select apps in one place for quick and easy access. Also the update brings big changes to the Library too. The Games and Applications tabs will focus on the content you have installed, instead of absolutely everything you own. Luckily, you don’t have to be a part of the beta to find out exactly what’s contained in the new update, which looks to be one of the more substantial updates the PlayStation 4 has received so far. “There are some new sorting tools for your Library as well”. For instance, you can add Online Friends to your Quick Menu that will show the online status of your friends, as well as shortcuts to your Favourite Groups and Communities and lots more.
This update brings the ability to view Trophies offline. Players will be able to choose to show the Trophy name and information about that Trophy in the menus. You can also add a background image to your own profile selected from the screenshots you took in your favourite games.

The PS4 4.0 update seems pretty conservative in the grand scheme of things, but the current interface doesn’t really need much, either.
