Chad pushes Phelps to keep swimming
Even with Phelps at the 100 meter mark, Perreira fell behind on the breaststroke portion of the race and ultimately finished seventh. It’s the USA’s fifth successive global title. “I try not to think about the history”, said the American phenom after posting a Games record of eight minutes, 12.86 seconds.

After a qualifying heat earlier in the day it’s a good bet Michael Phelps will be swimming in the men’s 200m individual medley semifinal at 11:29 p.m. He set his first world record in the same event a year later. Phelps won the 200m butterfly and the 4x200m freestyle relay and gained his stunning 20th and 21st gold medals.
However, as Sports Illustrated noted, Phelps is 4-1 all-time in finals against Lochte, with the only loss coming in the 400 IM in London 2012.
Phelps, who now has 27 Olympic medals, had been hoping to win the event for the fourth successive Games but his Midas touch deserted him and he had to settle for another color medal for the first time in Rio.
The butterfly was an important event for the American as it saw him pitted against his old rival Chad le Clos – who beat him in the same event at London 2012.

But the South African could only manage fourth this time, also finishing behind bronze medallist Tamas Kenderesi of Hungary.
Lloyd Burnard is Sport24’s correspondent in Rio de Janeiro for the duration of the 2016 Olympics. She still posted the best time by nearly seven seconds. Now, the former combatants are eyeing gold in Rio. And she realized he was sleepwalking and talking about being in the Olympics back during the Atlanta Games.

China’s Wang Shun was third in 1:57.05. Altogether, the US swim team has accounted for seven of the nation’s 10 golds, and 18 of its 27 total medals so far. “This is a special one to both of us”.
Katinka Hosszu is having quite an Olympics, too.
