Gabby Douglas calls Twitter bullying ‘really hurtful’

The mother of United States gymnast Gabby Douglas says her daughter has been badly affected by a torrent of online criticism for her demeanor and alleged lack of patriotism during the Rio Games.

Gabby Douglas added a gold in Rio to her two from London after the American gymnasts captured first place in the team competition.

Gabby Douglas faced criticism for her stance during the National Anthem, which many found un-patriotic and offensive. Simone Biles, who won gold in the individual all-around and in the women’s vault, joined Douglas as the only other American all-around champion to win multiple gold medals in a single Olympic Games.

According to the Guardian, she told reporters, “I’ve been trying to stay off the Internet because there’s so much negativity”. “It was a little bit tearful”.

Douglas, the 20-year-old gymnastics gold medalist, admitted Sunday that the digs have taken a toll and her mother lashed out at critics she says have bullied her daughter. “I pictured it differently, but that’s okay because I’m just gonna take this experience as a really good, positive one”.

On her supposed lack of support for her teammates, Douglas apologized. “I just wanted to go out there and believe in my abilities and use the talent that I was given”. “I wasn’t. I was supporting Aly”. They said she had breast enhancements, they said she wasn’t smiling enough, she’s unpatriotic.

Douglas noted “I apologized if I offended anyone” by merely standing at attention rather than copying her four teammates, who had their hands over their hearts. “Now you’re “Crabby Gabby”, Natalie Hawkins said in an interview, via Reuters. She proved to be one of the finest gymnasts the US has ever produced and inspired millions around the world. Still love them who hate me.

“You name it and she got trampled”, Hawkins said. First Lady Michelle Obama has felt the wrath time and time again for her muscular arms, her reminder that the White House was built by slaves, and wanting to help America get in shape. I have no regrets coming back for a second Olympics. It probably wouldn’t have been an issue had the rest of the USA gymnasts on the medal stand alongside her done the same.

They said she was unpatriotic on Wednesday, when Douglas was the only member of the Final Five who didn’t place her hand on her heart during the national anthem after they won gold. “It’s a huge honor for me to be her mother as she’s the bravest person I know”.

Despite helping the U.S. defend their women’s team title, she was forced to apologise after a Twitter backlash for failing to put her hand on her heart during the American national anthem.

But for me, it’s just like – it’s been a lot. “I’m just going to stand on that”.

No, the Games weren’t ruined, she responded, they were “an unbelievable, crazy-also fun-experience”.
