John Deere: Ryan Moore wins by two strokes
“The worst thing to do is to be even or 1 over after five or six holes”. I think that was 34 holes I played today. Notes: The PGA Tour is the only major tour that has a tournament scheduled the same week as the Olympics.

With preferred lies in effect, Scott Stallings enjoyed a bogey-free 5-under-par 32-34=66 in the third round of the John Deere Classic to post 11-under 202, up 14 spots to T9 with play still in progress.
Lucy Li, 13, of Redwood, Calif., shot a 2-under 69 in hot and windy conditions at Wannamoisett in Rumford, R.I., to become the second-youngest girl to win the Junior PGA Championship after LPGA Tour star Lexi Thompson won her first of two titles in 2007 at age 12.
Stover said, “It just shows the importance they put on volunteers, and a lot of them that they are honoring have given so much to the tournament”. “I like how steady this was, with no bogeys on the weekend”.
“It was one of those days where all the putts were going in”, said Martin. Had Martin been able to birdie two of those three Par 5 holes, he would have been in position for a playoff. “I don’t think he really ever sniffed a bogey”.
Martin finished two shots behind victor Ryan Moore in spite of not taking advantage of any of the par 5s on Sunday. He led by five shots after Hoffmann bogeyed No 12, and no one could mount a challenge.
Moore was tied with Bryan for the lead after the completion of the second round Saturday morning. 12-14 to cut his own deficit against Moore to two but Moore’s eight consecutive pars to finish the round were all he needed to capture his fifth win on the PGA Tour and first since 2014. “It would have been nice to get the first five and the last five, but strong start, strong finish”.
“It’s one I’ve grown to like more over the past few years”, Moore said of the Deere Run. “In the middle of the round, it kind of went sideways”.
Beginning on the back nine, the 39-year-old Australian started with back-to-back birdies before making four straight birdies on holes 14 through 17 to turn in six-under.
Moore opened with three straight 65s in the event thrown off schedule by rain Thursday and Friday.
Gillis came in second in the John Deere Classic previous year, losing in a playoff to Jordan Spieth, who chose to skip this week’s event.
Wesley Bryan, the leader Friday when play was suspended, was tied for fifth at 13 under after a 70. He earned a PGA Tour card last week with his third Web.com Tour victory of the year.
Moore, 33, collects $864,000 for his victory at the PGA Tour event, which clashed with the debut of Olympic men’s golf, where Briton Justin Rose received no prize money but claimed a prized gold medal for his victory in Rio. Johnson won the 2012 tournament. He’s from just up the road in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Three-time champion Steve Stricker had a 70. The 49-year-old Stricker, a former University of IL player from Wisconsin, won the event in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Although Moore never really opened up a sizeable lead, he didn’t allow any of his rivals an opportunity to get a sight of the lead.
Rain was forecast for Monday, too.

Billy Mayfair, making his first senior start after turning 50 last Saturday, was a stroke back after a 67. He earned $32,640, putting him in at $601,164 for the season and 139th on the money list.
