Trump says presidential debates shouldn’t compete with NFL
The debate schedule was set last September by the bipartisan Commission on Presidential Debates.

You can understand Trump’s disappointment.
“Well, I’ll tell you what I don’t like”. In the same period, there are about 1,000 NFL football games. The erstwhile The Apprentice host was interviewed today by ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, where he claimed “I got a letter from the National Football League saying, ‘This is ridiculous”.
He ended up skipping one: a January debate hosted by Fox News in Iowa amid an ongoing dispute with the cable news network.
Both candidates agreed to the schedule.
Trump hasn’t threatened a boycott.
He did tell Stephanopoulos he was content with three debates. I think they will be very interesting.
There is an entirely different system for the presidential and vice presidential debates.
The schedule was announced last September by the Commission on Presidential Debates. The NFL regular-season schedule, on the other hand, was released in April this year.
The debate scheduling process is always hard.
26, the debates go up against a meeting of the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints.
It’s fair to expect that the debate scheduled for October 9, 2016, opposite NBC’s “Sunday Night Football”, will suffer some in the ratings vs. the others. Fridays and Saturdays are effectively ruled out because TV viewing is lower on weekend evenings. That leaves only Tuesdays and Wednesdays, which themselves may be affected by baseball’s World Series. Apparently learning a lesson from the last time he took on the National Football League (as owner of the USFL’s New Jersey Generals), Trump has backed down.
The Democratic Party was criticized during the primary race for scheduling debates between Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and Sen. “This was a dumb idea and should be revisited”, Spicer said, throwing the RNC’s support behind Trump’s complaint. As Reuters noted rather dryly at the time, “a larger-than-usual audience was expected for Palin and Biden going into their debate, given the questions raised about the Alaska governor’s readiness and the widespread lampooning of her previous appearances in the media”.
The Clinton campaign, when asked for a statement on Sunday, directed reporters to a tweet sent by John Podesta, the campaign chairman.
If Trump “says no, then he looks weak, which is against brand”, Favreau theorized.
A Trump aide had also told CNN Money: ‘Mr.
“The rumor is that Trump may not agree to the debates”.

While this is certainly not the first time that Donald Trump’s claims have been refuted soon after they were uttered, the way he has gone on about widely brandishing his style of political skulduggery even after winning the nomination is staggering to say the least. Given that nobody in a position of authority at the league is backing up the claim, I have no idea why he would have said that, but it’s equally true that the NFL isn’t wild about the plan.
