They discussed the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine.

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) said on August 10 that it had thwarted attempted terrorist attacks in Crimea plotted by Ukraine’s Defense Ministry’s main intelligence directorate.

The desire by German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier to work with Russia’s regions deserves full support, Russia’s top diplomat, Sergey Lavrov, declared on Monday following talks with his German counterpart. Ukraine flatly denied this.

The minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, said he was anxious about rising tensions between Moscow and Kiev after President Vladimir Putin last week accused Ukraine of using terrorist tactics to try to provoke a new conflict over annexed Crimea.

Insisting it would fulfill its side of the bargain, Russia’s Sergei Lavrov said Kyiv had to also honour its obligations.

Ukraine says for its part that Moscow is the one stirring trouble in eastern Ukraine by backing pro-Russian separatists there.

Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier told the Welt am Sonntag newspaper on Saturday that Germany was in talks with the U.S., Russian Federation and the United Nations to try and organize “urgent humanitarian assistance” to the northern Syrian city. “We have nothing to announce at this time”, Trudeau told AFP. “We remain in close contact (with Russian officials)”.
