US Vice President Biden to visit Turkey -White House

The operations are part of the government’s investigation into the movement led by US-based Islamic cleric Fethullah Gulen.

His visit comes amid strained relations between the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies following the July 15 failed coup bid in Turkey.

Turkish bureaucrats say they have offered over pamphlets to US officials concerning Gulen.

Müller, who as governing mayor is premier of the state of Berlin, told the Sunday edition of German newspaper “Bild” that Turkish officials had approached him following the attempted coup last month.

On Friday, Turkey’s foreign and justice ministers announced that a four-person delegation from the US Justice Department will be arriving on August 22 and meet with their Turkish counterparts on the following two days to discuss the extradition request.

Vice President Joe Biden will visit Turkey later this month, the White House announced Friday.

“The main element improving our relations with the U.S.is the extradition of Gulen, where there is no room for negotiation”, he said.

-Turkish relations is dependent on the United States cooperating with their request to extradite Gulen.

Yildirim said a total of 81,494 people including judges, soldiers and civil servants have either been suspended or sacked since the July 15 abortive putsch.

Secretary of State John Kerry is expected to visit Turkey in October, according to Mr. Yildirim.

“Whether or not the anti-Americanism in Turkey will continue is also dependant on this”, Mr Yildirim added. More than 1 million flag-waving Turks gathered to mark the end of nightly anti-coup demonstrations since the July 15 attempt.

Turkey pushed back Saturday at the UN’s top human rights official, who said this week that Ankara should rein in a “thirst for revenge” in the aftermath of the coup.

Turkish foreign ministry spokesman Tanju Bilgic, in a statement, said Zeid’s comments were unacceptable.

Still, the scope of the security sweep now appears to be worrying even some in the ruling, Islamist-rooted AK Party.

“Even if the shock absorber of a vehicle breaks down, they say someone with [the Gulenists] has done this”.

In the past, he has been accused of being the leader of an organisation that illegally tapped into the conversations of Erdogan and Ahmet Davutoglu, the former prime minister.
