Wenger says players “not ready” after home defeat

A penalty save by Mignolet shortly before the opening goal had kept Liverpool level at halftime before three quick goals from Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana exposed the holes in a patchwork Arsenal defence.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admitted he almost made a spectacle of himself with his mad celebrations as Arsenal recovered to reach a nail-biting 4-3 by the finale.

Koscielny has a knock and recently competed at Euro 2016 where he helped France reach the final on home soil, only to lose out to Portugal.

The post Arsenal not ready yet, says Wenger appeared first on Punch Newspapers. “You’re in a catch 22 situation with the Euros because you give the players a rest. If they are not ready, and you play them, they get injured, like Ramsey today”.

Thierry Henry is anxious that Arsenal have lost the ability to attract the very best players in world football to the Emirates Stadium.

“We came in after the first half knowing we could play better”, the captain toldLiverpoolfc.com.

He said: “Physically we are not ready”.

“That’s part of it and of course that’s not pleasant but we have shown in the past we have the mental strength to deal with that and bounce back”, he added. “But then we strike back and that’s very, very important”, he said.

“It was too easy to play between our rows and in the spaces we gave them, the formation we had chosen was to close those spaces and what we did was open spaces”.

“We are not stupid”, he said. At the back we lack a bit of maturity but you know that before we go into the game. “We will try to get Koscielny, Giroud and Ozil fit for Leicester City, but when they have not enough preparation they get injured”. “You have to sometimes accept that you can not control absolutely everything, even if you try to be as intelligent as possible”.

Liverpool fought back from 1-0 down to take a 4-1 lead at the Emirates before the Gunners pulled back to within a goal of Jurgen Klopp’s side. “Scoring four is wonderful, conceding three is the opposite”, Klopp said. It was a ideal start for us.

“A genius shot of Phil. I was really happy about having half time because we could speak about everything”.

“But after that we need to manage the game better, especially when they scored the second and gathered momentum”.
