Rio 2016: USA gymnast Simone Biles wins 3rd gold in women’s vault

She stays on pace to win an unprecedented five gold medals, with balance beam Monday the most questionable. Their margin of victory for the gold in the team event was 8 points.

Biles won all-around gymnastics gold with a certain panache.

It’s not the first time during the competition that Douglas has faced censure.

While the day might belong to Whitlock, the games belong to Biles.

Gymnasts are required to perform two different vaults in the Olympic apparatus final, with the average of the two scores serving as their final mark. Medals are also up for grabs in men’s pole vault and men’s 800 meters.

And for swimmers across the world to see an African American woman who has been consistently breaking the barrier is simply motivating.

The heavyweights battle in boxing and wrestling. Reigning gold medalist Lasse Norman Hansen of Denmark leads the six-discipline event at the midway point, but the British star is within striking distance.

It only took 17 years – and 43.03 seconds.

Chusovitina, who has a 16-year-old son, was sandwiched between two 16-year-old gymnasts in the vault completion. She is nearly untouchable.

“I thought someone was going to catch me”, van Niekerk explained.

“I found it very insulting”. It was a long time coming, not just for Naddour, who was an alternate on the 2012 and didn’t compete, but for the US men, who haven’t won a medal on horse in 32 years.

It’s also personally satisfying; Biles has never won gold on the event at her past three world championships. Klishina had appealed that ban.

Asked about Chusovitina’s longevity, Biles’ coach Aimee Boorman said: “It’s ridiculous”. She could even compete until she’s 41, like this remarkable gymnast.

The court said Klishina can take part in Tuesday’s qualifying because she has been based outside of Russian Federation for three years and been subjected to regular drug testing.

That’s what I call this year’s Women’s Olympic Gymnastics Team and for more reasons than one. “The racial comment was really out of line”, Biles’ father, Ron, told USA Today at the time, adding the irony of how “normally it’s not in her favor being black, at least not in the world that I live in”.

Simone Biles won her third Olympic gold by capturing the vault title at Rio Olympic Arena on Sunday. Gabby Douglas, a third US competitor, would have won the bronze medal if she had been allowed to compete. Her biggest challenge will likely come from teammate Laurie Hernandez, who edged Biles during the U.S. Olympic Trials last month.

No Americans qualified for rings or vault finals.

The real test of Rio’s dirty water – or maybe Olympic athletes’ immune systems – is about to begin.

It’s just too bad that the flawless 10 was abolished from gymnastics.

Open water swimming is always hard, but Rio de Janeiro’s heavily polluted water is upping the ante this year. Likewise, Biles again demonstrated her prowess on the vault specifically with a score of 15.966. “Emotionally, it was tough”.

Earlier Sunday, Kei Nishikori won bronze, Japan’s first Olympic tennis medal since 1920. “Because you know you can do all the skills”.

“It was brilliant”, Bolt said. I’m more happy for her than I am myself. “Martha said, ‘I made you guys cry?’ ‘Oh Martha you have no idea'”. They become only the second and third Brazilians to earn gymnastics medals, behind Arthur Zanetti who won gold in rings in 2012. Andre de Grasse of Canada took the bronze. That would be five gold medals.

Claressa Shields, the first American woman to win gold in boxing, tweeted, “Way to go Simone Manuel!”. Perhaps that’s part of the reason why Douglas took Sunday’s setback so well. She may be retiring from the sport, but Harrison, a former sparring partner with Ronda Rousey, may have other career plans.
