Thomas admitted that she initially tried to bury the children in the backyard but failed and made a decision to place them under a neighbor’s home instead.
Children’s Protective Services released a statement Sunday afternoon that read: “CPS is investigating the deaths of the 5-year-old and 7-year-old in the Third Ward”.
Thomas was arrested and charged with capital murder.
From there, the person helped Thomas pack her things, until realizing the children were nowhere to be found.
Houston police spokesperson Kese Smith said investigators were still interviewing Thomas and had not determined a motive. The acquaintance initially thought Thomas was joking until he went over to her home and found her packing up to leave. She then tried to dig a hole but couldn’t make it deep enough, so she moved the bodies of her 7-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter under a neighbor’s house. He said she did not appear to have a history of mental illness. However, police have reportedly been called several times for “nothing major”.
Thomas placed his body next to his sister’s in the bedroom and then later put their bodies in a rubbish bin behind her home, the affidavit said.
According to KHOU, the woman also has a 12-year-old son, but he was not home at the time. The son is safe and staying with his father. Online criminal court records do not list an attorney to comment on behalf of Thomas, whose next court appearance is set for Wednesday.

Adding: ‘How in the h*** can she do something like this? I can’t get over this.’ .
Told the deceased children’s aunt, Kita Smith: ‘How am I going to tell my brother about his kids?’ She said an investigation has been launched and the Office of Child safety would carry out a “top-to-bottom review of this case”.
Reiterated the aunt: ‘Why would anyone do this?
Smith told of having taken care of the children for their mother in the past. It was in 2006 when it was decided that she killed her children because she was insane. At the time of publishing, $1,165 of $10k goal had been raised. It’s incredible.
