Moore should gallop all the way to finishing line

Moore played the final 46 holes of the tournament bogey free to finish at 22-under par. “I don’t think he ever really sniffed a bogey”. He got it on the green and two-putted for par.

Moore wasn’t fazed by birdie binges from Morgan Hoffmann and Martin during a long Saturday, one in which many of the players – Moore included – had to play almost two rounds after numerous rain delays wreaked havoc with the tournament schedule.

“I really hit the ball well today, gave myself a lot of chances for birdies, stayed patient and grinded it out to the end and put together a really good round”.

South Korea’s Kim Whee birdied the last five holes to shoot 64 and was five behind in a tie for fifth with Kelly Kraft, who had a 67, and second round leader Wesley Bryan, who made a double-bogey six on the 15th hole and finished with a 70. He parred the final two holes, putting out on the par-4 18th with a large scoreboard providing just enough light to see.

Bryan earned his PGA Tour card by winning three events on the Web.com Tour, and he shared the 36-hole lead this week, but he only shot 2 under over the weekend with four birdies and three bogeys Sunday.

Martin’s 62 tied his best round on the PGA Tour.

Birdies for Charity has been a tradition at the John Deere Classic for more than 20 years.

Steve Stricker had a 72 to tie for 52nd at 6 under.

Defending champion Jordan Spieth was not entered this week after also deciding to skip the Olympic Games. He’s from nearby Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

UPPER ARLINGTON, Ohio – The final round of the U.S. Senior Open was postponed because of heavy rain, giving Miguel Angel Jimenez another night to sleep on the third-round lead. He did what you’re supposed to do when you play with the lead on Sunday.

Johnson didn’t get to play at all on Friday – he was scheduled to tee off at 7:50 p.m. and didn’t get off a shot before play was suspended because of darkness and rain.

Three weeks ago at Carnoustie in the Senior British Open, Jimenez took a four-stroke lead into the last day, only to shoot 75 and tie for third – three strokes behind victor Paul Broadhurst. He had only recorded one other top 10 this year heading into the week. Barnes has now finished in the top 5 in two of his last three events.

“It’s nice to have some momentum coming into this time of year”, Martin said.
