NV Energy noted that the filing is its next step in the transformation of NV Energy’s fuel mix, moving to a cleaner, more balanced generation portfolio. NV Energy had originally planned to fully shut down the coal-fired plant in December 2017.

NV Energy Inc is seeking approval for a 100-MW solar power project in Nevada, the U.S. utility said Monday, pointing out that the average cost of energy for the life of the facility would be about Dollars 0.04 (EUR 0.036) per kWh.
In recent years, NV Energy has been weaning itself off coal, turning instead to fuel from natural gas and large-scale solar projects, both resources that have become increasingly affordable options. The utility’s media release said the company signed a 25-year supply contract with Techren Solar LLC, which plans to build a 100-megawatt project in Boulder City.
Subject to regulatory approval, the high-efficiency single-axis photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Eldorado Valley is expected to go live in the closing quarter of 2018.
NV Energy has requested that the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada make a decision on the filing by the end of 2016. “On a cloudy day, it won’t be producing as much, but even on a cloudy day, the beauty is that it’ll be producing some energy”.
