Will Sheldon Rankins status be doubtful in the Saints first games of the season?

The New Orleans Saints suffered their first major injury of training camp as first-round pick Sheldon Rankins went down with that’s being diagnosed as a broken fibula.
Considering the alternatives, this news is about as good as the Saints could have hoped for.
“I don’t know where he’s at, but here’s how you handle injuries as a coach”, Allen said.”You move on”.
Stay with WWLTV and WWLTV.com for more on this developing story. The injury might not be season-ending, according to The Advocate, and Rankins is a candidate for injured reserve with the option to return. He’s among several players New Orleans acquired in hopes of improving a defense that ranked second-to-last in the National Football League the past two seasons.
The injury is another big blow to a Saints defense that also lost second-year pass-rusher Hau’oli Kikaha to a knee injury this summer.

The Saints have a potential back-up option, veteran Nick Fairley. It’s possible for the team to overcome things, and signing Fairley helps in that regard, but it’s not an ideal situation. With Rankins, they were not able to reach that goal.
