Pakistan marks Independence Day, President raises Kashmir issue

The day dawned with 31 gun salute in the federal and 21 gun salute in the provincial capitals, Radio Pakistan reported.

The Acting High Commissioner of Pakistan to Brunei Darussalam, Ahmed Ali Sirohey, unfurled and hoisted the flag witnessed by Pakistani nationals now working and residing in Brunei.

The main event will be organized at Convention Center in Islamabad where President Mamnoon Hussain will hoist the Pakistan flag and will also address the nation.

“Today, we join the Pakistani community – here in Canada, in Pakistan, and around the world – in celebrating Pakistan’s 70th Independence Day. Our political, moral and diplomatic support will continue for the people of Kashmir”.

“I look forward to working with Prime Minister Sharif to further strengthen the relationship between our two countries, and to working together on global issues including, peace, security, and development cooperation”.

US Ambassador David Hale has also congratulated Pakistan on the Independence Day, on behalf of President Obama, the people of U.S. and the embassy staff.

The President urged the people to shun differences and work hard for the prosperity of the country. Reports suggest that mobile phone services would remain suspended in several parts of Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, and other high-security areas in major cities. Internet services were also partially suspended.
