Tyler Chatwood: Chatwood allows six runs in loss to Phillies
The Phillies struck early when Maikel Franco took Rockies starter Tyler Anderson deep in the bottom of the first inning to jump out to a 3-0 lead.

Freeman has gone 18-for-35 this past week (.563), hitting seven home runs (three in a 10-6 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on August 12 and two in a 7-6 loss to the Phillies on Sunday), with a staggering 18 hits (four more than his next-closest competition, Adrian Beltre) and nine RBIs – third-most in the Major Leagues, and first in the National League.
Gonzalez hit a bases-clearing pinch-hit double on Thursday, but he’s not yet ready to enter the starting lineup.
“It was kind of tight throughout”, Chatwood said.
The only thing sweeter would’ve been a triple to complete the cycle.
Cesar Hernandez extended his on-base streak to 21 games with a fourth-inning walk and had an RBI single.
“I don’t know whether he hit him on goal or not”, Phillies manager Pete Mackanin said. “It unites the team”.
Charlie Blackmon homered twice and doubled for the Rockies, who have lost three in a row and seven of eight.
The Rockies climbed back in the sixth when Descalso’s two-run shot and Wolters’ solo homer pulled them within 4-3.
Blackmon became the first Rockies player ever to hit five homers in a three-game series and the first player to do it in a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park, which opened in 2004.
No punches were thrown, but both Anderson and Rockies manager Walt Weiss were ejected by plate umpire Eric Cooper.
“It kind of gets risky around the elbow area, but it got me pretty much in the meat of the forearm”, Morgan said.
“I know you’re not going to get a hit every game”, Dahl said. Although the area went numb after he got hit, Morgan only had a bruise afterwards. Paredes has hit three home runs in his last 25 at-bats.
He gave up two home runs in his victory over San Diego.
Colorado outhit the Phillies 13-6, but went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position. DJ LeMahieu sits on 135 hits with 74 runs and 42 RBI.
On a hot, humid afternoon, the teams played sloppy baseball by combining for five errors, a wild pitch, a balk and a hit batter. Raburn bobbled the ball and his throw home was late, allowing the Phillies to grab a 2-1 lead.
Colorado fell behind 7-3 in part because Gold Glove 3rd baseman Nolan Arenado had 2 errors, booting a grounder in the 2nd and throwing wildly in the 3rd. Both advanced on Chatwood’s wild pitch, causing Chatwood to intentionally walk Ryan Howard to load the bases. Odubel Herrera dropped a ball in center field for Philadelphia’s lone error.
Chatwood said he experienced upper back tightness similar to that which landed him on the disabled list from June 19-July 5.
X-rays were negative on Morgan’s arm, and while the Phillies aren’t sure if he will be able to make his next scheduled start, he was upbeat after the game.
For the second time this season, Colorado Rockies center fielder Charlie Blackmon is our Scout Hot Sheet Player of the Week.
Although initially called out on the play, a review overturned the call as Blackmon clearly slid under the tag that hit him in the chest.
Asked if there was any correlation between the hit batsmen, Weiss said, “None whatsoever”.
Rockies: Gonzalez has been battling a left ankle sprain.
“I feel like I haven’t been playing the way I’d like to at all for about two months now, and that (Friday) game was frustrating”, Arenado said.
Sunday represented the fourth time in 12 days that a Phillies starter got hurt.
The Rockies only managed to win one game during Blackmon’s torrid stretch and returns to Coors Field tonight to face the NL East-leading Washington Nationals.

The teams play the middle game of the three-game set on Saturday night with Colorado LHP Tyler Anderson (4-3, 3.04) opposing RHP Jerad Eickhoff (7-12, 3.78).
