Several of Missouri’s top political offices are up for grabs during primary races that will winnow down the list of candidates appearing on the ballot this fall.
Greitens will face Democrat Chris Koster, the current Missouri attorney general, who won an easy victory in his primary. Eric Greitens cast himself as a conservative outsider willing to use his military bravado to blow up perceived corruption in government.
Koster is well-known in the state after serving two terms as the Missouri attorney general. The service was stopped l. The two spots portray Greitens as someone who will “take aim at politics as usual”.
The Republican field features Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder, former U.S. Attorney and Missouri House Speaker Catherine Hanaway, former Navy SEAL officer Eric Greitens and former Marine and businessman John Brunner.
Koster voter Tyrone Aken, an artistic director in Kansas City, said he voted for the Democrat in hopes of countering Republicans, who hold supermajorities in the Legislature.
His Republican opponents also questioned whether Greitens truly is conservative.
Election polls are officially open in Missouri.
Greitens had switched to the Republican party from the Democratic one, whereas Koster had switched to the Democratic party from the Republican one. Teresa Hensley collected 360 local Democratic votes to represent her party in the November General election.
Together, their campaigns already have spent more than $22 million, with much of that going to a barrage of advertising.
The number one topic of tonight’s discussion was republican gubernatorial candidate, Eric Greitens.
