NY avoided a $6-million marketing payment due a year ago for matching Willie Mays’ total of 660 home runs.

Last Sunday, Alex Rodriguez held a press conference with the New York Yankees stating he’ll play his final game with the Yankees on August 12 and that New York has offered him a role as a special adviser. “I should have caught it”, Benintendi said.

“I’ve been so focused on this week [that] I don’t even have time or energy to think about anything else”, said A-Rod, who restated that he still feels he can play. He hasn’t played the field this season.

It is also worth noting that “A-Rod” chants could be heard throughout Fenway Park leading up to Thursday’s series-finale as Girardi refused to insert Rodriguez into the first two games of the series. “We are still in the business of trying to win games”.

The Yankees are expected to celebrate Rodriguez before and perhaps during the game, but owner Hal Steinbrenner declined give specifics.

Tonight’s first pitch has been changed from 7 p.m.to 7:35 to accommodate a pregame ceremony for Rodriguez. RHP Chris Archer (6-15, 4.26) is scheduled to start for the Rays. Austin Romine hit his fourth home run of the year.

After the game, Rodriguez, 41, will be released.

The return to form by Rodriguez and the addition of Pomeranz have given them just that. It is the spot usually reserved for players who have had the biggest impact on the game’s outcome, a description that certainly fit the rookie after his three-hit game. I totally get the answer.

“This is my last day, I would hope that a couple of balls didn’t hit me in the mouth. It was a fun request”.

Girardi didn’t rule out the possibility of putting A-Rod at third if there is a lopsided score either way.

If Rodriguez never plays again – there’s speculation he could – it will end one of the most controversial careers in baseball history. Rodriguez has said he will head back to his hometown of Miami following Friday’s game. “They are probably saving me some embarrassment”.

Rodriguez did not play in the series opener Tuesday and was a pinch-hitter Wednesday night.

Rodriguez handed over a bat to a young boy he said he made a deal with in the first inning. “They’re passionate fans. They love their team”.
