Pakistan PM Sharif reiterates stand on Kashmir

Meanwhile, the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference (AJKMC), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Party (JKPP) boycotted the presidential polls.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed that Pakistan would continue to support the just cause of the people of Jammu and Kashmir at every forum politically, diplomatically and ethically. Both are from PoK.

Earlier on Thursday, the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission (AJKEC) had accepted the nomination papers of PML-N and PPP nominees for the slot of president.

Masood Khan got 42 votes while Chaudhry Latif Akbar from Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) received six votes. While Haider is a seasoned politician, Khan is a career diplomat who served in key positions including Foreign Office spokesperson, ambassador to China and Permanent Representative at the UN.

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday said the continuity of electoral process in Azad Jammu and Kashmir had strengthened the democratic system.

AJK Assembly had also appointed PML-N’s Raja Farooq Haidar Khan as new Prime Minister while former president Sardar Yaqub Khan also administered oath to as many as nine members of AJK cabinet.

Masood Khan has thanked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for his nomination and for having full confidence in him.
