It’s official: Comedy Central has canceled “The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore”, after nearly a year and a half on air.

The 54-year-old Wilmore wrote for “In Living Color” and “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”.

Larry Wilmore kicked off his last week on The Nightly Show by, appropriately, “Keeping it 100” about Donald Trump.

Comedy Central announced earlier today that The Nightly Show has been cancelled.

Fans on Twitter decried the news, saying Wilmore tackled current events and life issues in a unique way.

Larry Wilmore said, “I’m really grateful to Comedy Central, Jon Stewart, and our fans to have had this opportunity, but I’m also saddened and surprised we won’t be covering this insane election, or “The Unblackening” as we’ve coined it”.

Wilmore is also now an executive producer on ABC sitcom black-ish, which he served as the showrunner for until The Nightly Show began, and recently co-created upcoming HBO comedy Insecure with Issa Rae.

“I’m really grateful to Comedy Central, Jon Stewart, and our fans to have had this opportunity”, Wilmore told THR in a statement on Monday.

“But I’m also saddened and surprised we won’t be covering this insane election or “The Unblackening” as we’ve coined it”, he continued.

The Daily Show With Jon Stewart spawned new shows for correspondents Stephen Colbert, John Oliver and Samantha Bee, now on rival networks.

“We just didn’t feel like we had enough traction to sign up for another year”.

“So, how was your day?” he asked to a laughing audience before explaining, “As many of you have probably heard, this is our final week of The Nightly Show”.

“When we started the show, we wanted to have a conversation of some very tough subjects”, Wilmore continued. Comedy Central announced the cancellation Monday.

And in response to past criticism aimed at Comedy Central, as with other networks that have largely stuck with men in hosting roles, Alterman said women, too, would be considered to headline the new show. In the second quarter of this year, “Daily Show” averaged 278,000 viewers in the adults 18-34 demo, second only to NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” (364,000). It’s too bad that the promo for Nightly Show tickets, which aired mid-show for visitors to NY, was only subversive irony.
