Dolphins offensive boss looking for improvement, and soon

“We’ve got to protect our quarterback better, we’ve got to run it better, we’ve got to throw and catch it better, we’ve got to do everything better”, he said.

“We didn’t look good enough”, offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen said. We’ve given them a lot to think about.

“I told those guys, ‘Let’s not put a play count in this thing, let’s just go and you guys don’t worry about how long you’re in there, let’s just play, “‘ Gase said.

Christensen blamed some of the team’s offensive struggles “on too much thinking”.

“But we should see some big improvement these next two weeks”. It’s hard to evaluate personnel, Christensen said, because the offense is not yet operating at full speed while learning a new playbook from a new coaching staff. Christensen said the plan is for the starters to see extended time in this week’s game in hopes of getting into “a little bit more of a groove” with the regular season drawing closer. “This is a process that we got to go through”. “And I do, I believe we’ll end up being a good offense, a really good offensive line, and deep, which is really good news”.

Some observers wonder why first-round draft pick Laremy Tunsil keeps lining up with the second team at guard, while holdovers Dallas Thomas and Billy Turner work with the first unit despite their shaky play in the past.

Christensen was even displeased with how his offense executed when it poured rain for about 15 minutes in Monday’s practice. Hopefully we’ll get there. That’s what we’re going to do. That was great work for us. “I was disappointed. We need wet balls and we fumbled a couple snaps and that’s unacceptable”. We had too many fumbled snaps and operations issues, that can’t happen.

“We’ve got to start making some decisions and guys have got to start making some plays and guys have got to start showing what they can do”, he said. “That’s what these next two weeks are for. You can’t just say, ‘All right, 13, I guess I count myself out.’ No”.

“The fourth preseason game will kind of be getting ready for opening day”.
