Eurostar staff announce seven day strike
The RMT said 80 of its members objected to the balance of unsocial hours – early mornings, late evenings and weekends – which they were being asked to work.

Nearly 90% of members voted in favour of industrial action short of a strike.
According to Cash, members of Eurostar’s union are determined to sit at the negotiation table until the company guarantees them a harmonious work-life cycle.
RMT members voted in favour of strike action on the basis that Eurostar had failed to honour their commitments and the fact that work-life balance was being repeatedly undermined.
This is the third strike on the railways as RMT union is also involved in disputes with Southern Railway over conductor jobs and with Virgin Trains East Coast over jobs.
STRIKES by Southern Railway workers on Thursday and Friday have been called off to allow fresh talks in the bitter row over the role of conductors.
A Eurostar spokesman said: “We are aware of the plans for strike action”. The company is trying to find a resolution with the RMT, and will make arrangements so that all passengers who have tickets can travel this weekend, a Eurostar spokeswoman said by phone from London.
They will present a 6ft-tall letter to rail minister Paul Maynard calling on him to attend a “passenger assembly” to answer questions and freeze fares for a year, and compensate customers affected by the dispute.
But not all commuters’ woes have been abated – a strike timetable affecting the train-planning system remains in place.
The RMT is concerned about the impact of removing the second member of staff on disabled and older passengers, the spokesman added.
But the unions argued that the debate over train managers’ work/life balance in terms of unsocial hours and duty rosters is safety-critical.
RMT members are due to march on Whitehall on Wednesday to stage a protest outside the Department for Transport (DfT) amid claims the Government has put a “blockade” on talks to end the dispute.
See the Southern Railway website for more information.
Update: Strikes by Southern rail staff on Thursday and Friday have been called off as talks continue, ACAS reports.

Mr Cash said: “We were within an inch of making progress towards boxing off a deal with Southern in Acas talks on Friday that was based on the offer from ScotRail, an offer that enabled us to suspend all industrial action in the ScotRail guards dispute”.
