The department said the reduced costs will encourage students to take placement tests and obtain college credit for high school courses, reducing time and costs for a postsecondary degree.
State funding levels were determined on the basis of state estimates of the number of tests that would be taken by low-income students.
More and more kids are taking the tests.
During a press conference call Wednesday, King said the goal is to put low-income students on par “alongside their more affluent peers”. “Secretary Duncan and I both believe it is our role to help eliminate barriers whenever possible”.
Officials say global student-visa holders now enrolled in Ohio support 11,337 jobs and contribute $827 million to the state’s economy. “We’re working very hard to open the door to college, and this program is a critical piece of that effort”.
