Ramey said officials were working several leads, and are conducting interviews to follow up on the leads. No Amber Alert has been issued because there has been no sign of an abduction, police said.
Officials had to call off their search in a wooded area at 9:30 p.m. Police have asked that any volunteer efforts to locate the child be suspended overnight as well due to hazards that are not easily visible in darkness. The caretaker was the boyfriend of the child’s mother and he had fallen asleep while caring for the child in the home. The other child is accounted for. Crews then began looking for her on and around the 1900 block of Bess Town Road, near Ruthaven Drive, in Bessemer City.
Dumont had gone missing on Monday from her North Carolina home, and the search for the girl continued through the night and into the day on Tuesday. “If you see something suspicious or anything at all that may lead us to believe that it is Jordan, please give us a call”, said Ramey.
“Dumont is described as approximately 3’2” tall with curly dirty blonde, shoulder length hair and blue/green eyes. She was last wearing a white shirt with Mickey or Minnie Mouse on the front and blue jean shorts.

During a news conference Tuesday morning, authorities said they found human remains. “It is with deep regret that I’m announcing we have found the remains of what appear to be a toddler”, said Gaston County Police Chief Joseph Ramey.
