Lenovo tackles VR with two new desktop gaming PCs

Launched today at Gamescon 2016 in Germany, the diminutive desktop has an integrated carry handle for toting it between LAN parties or wherever you might want to demonstrate the latest virtual reality rig like Oculus or HTC Vive. The IdeaCenter Y710 Cube is a small box stuffed with power, while the IdeaCenter AIO Y910 is an all-in-one PC. The two models shows are the IdeaCentre Y710 Cube and IdeaCentre AIO Y910 gaming PC.

Housed within the compact cube, the 7.4kg machine features Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 10-series GPUs, 6th-gen Intel Core i7 processors, and up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM.

The IdeaCentre AIO Y910, meanwhile, affords the convenience of an all-in-one solution with a 27-inch QHD (2,560 x 1,440) display (the ideal resolution for this size, IMO) that’s driven by the same hardware options as the Y710 Cube (6th gen Core i7, 32GB of RAM, 256GB SSD, GTX 1080).

Slide off the side panel and you get relatively easy access to up to a 2TB HDD and 256GB SSD.

While the new IdeaPad Y910 gaming laptop is arguably the most portable options, it’s really more of a desktop-replacement than the kind of notebook you’re likely to carry with you everywhere you go.

The IdeaCentre Y710 Cube, referred to by some as the “console killer”, comes with a built-in Xbox One Wireless receiver and includes an Xbox One wireless controller, with capacity to support up to eight controllers at the same time.

The IdeaCentre AIO Y910 offers a new take on the all-in-one (AIO) form. Everything is tucked behind a 27-inch, 2,560 x 1,440p borderless display (144Hz refresh and 5-millisecond response). Sound is provided by twin 5W Harman Kardon speakers.

The IdeaCentre Y710 Cube starts at €899 (a touch over a grand) and will be available later this month.
