While India can not take the same approach to Balochistan that Pakistan takes to Kashmir, because “unlike Pakistan we are not a terrorist state”, and so can not give material support to Baloch, PoK and Gilgit-Baltistan’s liberation struggles, India should step up the pressure on Islamabad by getting foreign offices across the world to get in touch with the leaders of these movements and ensure that information on Pakistan’s atrocities on the populations of these regions becomes available to the world.
The two nuclear-armed arch-rivals have been involved in a tense war of words on Indian atrocities in held Kashmir following the recent killing of a popular rebel Burhan Wani.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday made a veiled attack on the previous governments and said state-owned enterprises were set up to fail or to sell them out.
One officer died in the police station shootout.
At least 64 people have been killed and thousands injured during 39 days of protests, while schools, shops, banks and offices remain closed in much of Kashmir as paramilitary troops patrol arterial roads, residential areas and mosques.
Instead, Indian Prime Minister Modi issued a piousness statement against Pakistan on his country’s day during his address while Pakistan’s President Mamnoon Hussain a day earlier spoke of peace and dialogue with India for finding solution of disputes including Kashmir issue.
Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam said that India should not resume talks with Pakistan until “it mends its ways”.
Kashmir is divided between India and Pakistan and claimed in entirety by both.
Responding to his remarks, Pakistan said his references to Balochistan and PoK were an attempt to divert world attention from the “grim tragedy” that has been unfolding in Jammu and Kashmir.
