Annalise Murphy lifts Ireland’s spirits with brilliant silver medal
It’s a big day for sailor Annalise Murphy and boxer Michael Conlan, both of whom can clinch medals this afternoon.

Murphy, 26, led for most of the way in London only to end up fourth.
Murphy’s fifth place finish in today’s race was enough to see her move up one spot in the podium positions to claim silver.
Denmark’s Anne-Marie Rindom won bronze, while Britain’s Alison Young was eighth after winning Tuesday’s race.
This is the first time Team Ireland has won a medal in sailing since the Moscow Games 36 years ago in which David Wilkins and Jamie Wilkinson won in the Flying Dutchman class.
“It’s incredible”, Murphy said after winning Ireland’s second medal of the Games.
“It’s awesome, this time four years ago I had just finished fourth and it was the hardest day of my life, but I said I was going to come back and try to get a medal”.
If the race can not be held tomorrow Murphy, who is now sitting in third place in the Laser Radial class, will take the bronze medal.
“Four years ago, when I was fourth I was completely heartbroken, so it’s a completely different feeling”.
“I knew that I just had to treat it like every other race that I’ve done this week”. In the last race I was able to put everything together really well. I was going to attack it and not be afraid of losing.

“It was pretty light winds so not conditions that suit me, but I kind of proved I was able to do it”.
