The Miami Marlins are in the market for a power hitter to replace injured slugger Giancarlo Stanton, and they’re discussing whether to reach out to Rodriguez, president of baseball operations Michael Hill said Sunday.

Miami is expected to be without Giancarlo Stanton for the remainder of the season as a result of a grade three groin strain.
“He looked like he got shot”, Mattingly said. Even if he does get the urge to continue his playing career, it appears clear he would be best served doing it after some time off to refresh his 41-year-old body and recover some semblance of his once-incredible batspeed.
Stanton joins first baseman Justin Bour on the disabled list, adding another hole to a Marlins team that owns a 61-56 record and now holds one of the two Wild Card spots. Then again, with Justin Bour out until September with an ankle injury, Chris Johnson has been the primary first baseman, and he has been terrible.
Stanton has been essential in both the offense and defense of Miami, having led the team in home runs with 25.
In any event, Miami, which also put pitcher Adam Conley on the disabled list with tendinitis in his left middle finger, doesn’t want to let its injuries cause it to fall out of the postseason race.
As you can see (and hear, if you go back and listen to the audio), Bowden was sure that Rodriguez would be joining the Marlins as soon as Monday afternoon. If Stanton can’t stay healthy, however, it becomes less likely that he will opt out, which sticks the Marlins with annual salaries starting at $29 million in 2021.
Conley gave up five runs in four innings Saturday and said he has been pitching with soreness in his pitching hand that has been getting worse. Stanton was thrown out at second base to end the game and appeared to collapse right before the bag with a lower body injury. “In that situation with two outs, we’re definitely going to take the chance unless it’s a lined, hard-hit ball right at him”. The Marlins trailed the Cardinals by one-half game for the second wild card entering Sunday’s play.
Conley is 8-6 with a 3.84 ERA in 24 starts.
“It means we’ve got to find another way to win, simple as that”, Mattingly said.
This year’s episode is a strained groin, suffered in the late innings of Saturday’s loss to the Chicago White Sox.
