Janis suffered a broken right hand in practice Wednesday and didn’t play Green Bay’s first preseason game two days later.

Janis told ESPN that the injury “doesn’t help” his chances of making the final roster. The third-year receiver claimed to have jammed his finger in practice earlier this week, but the injury turned out to be much more serious than expected.

Undrafted free agents Joe Callahan and Marquise Williams led the way for the Green Bay Packers as they spoiled Robert Griffin III’s debut beating the Cleveland Browns, 17-11 in a preseason match held at the Packers home in Wisconsin. Often players are able to continue playing that way without risk of further injury.

One option the Packers don’t have is placing Janis on the physically unable to perform list (PUP).

“You’re seeing some of the marquee players play less”, Rodgers said after Monday’s practice, during which he ran the scout team.

After missing almost two full weeks of camp, Brett Hundley returned to practice today.

Jones said he’s shed about 15 pounds since last season in the defensive lineman’s conversion to playing more at outside linebacker.

“Got pretty good production on all of them”, said Lacy, who didn’t play after the opening series. However, that doesn’t mean a the third-year wide receiver can not still end up of the team’s Week 1 53-man roster.

The Browns got a safety in the first, but the Packers followed up just a few minutes later with a field goal. It’s possible other high-profile starters won’t play in any other games, either.

According to a report from Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jeff Janis’ season has been thrown into question, as he is expected to miss 4-6 weeks after screws were inserted around his index finger following a surgical procedure to fix the injury.

He also has kickoff return ability and could be a factor there. Not with two-time MVP Aaron Rodgers around. He was taken out of the game with a concussion. As a result, the opposing defense will keep the box stacked this will give the Packers receivers more man-to-man coverage.

If Janis were to be put on injured reserve and remain there all year, he wouldn’t qualify for the proven performance bonus included in all four-year contracts signed by players drafted in the third through seventh rounds. Even with the best rusher in the National Football League, the offensive line was a weak spot for them previous year, and their validity is still in question.
