Two businesses in San Leandro were damaged early Monday morning in a 4-alarm fire in San Leandro, according to the Alameda County Fire Department.

The fire was reported sometime earlier this morning in the 2100 block of Doolittle Drive, near Marina Boulevard, according to fire officials. Damage estimates to the medical supply company were not immediately available. But firefighters were able to save a coffee shop, hair salon and a smoke shop.
The extent of the damage to the supermarket was not known immediately.

By about 4:20 a.m. the fire was under control and contained, but fire officials said they expected to remain on the scene to for several hours, mopping up hot spots. The blown water main, located on Barrow Street, flooded the street and forced its closure. It appears firefighters quickly turning valves on and off while fighting the blaze put a strain on the aging cast iron pipeline, East Bay Municipal Utility District spokeswoman Abby Figueroa said. Alameda County fire investigators are working with San Leandro police and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to determine the cause of the blaze, Knowles said.
