Witnesses told CP24 that the van appeared to have backed over Doyle following some sort of altercation with the driver.

Toronto Police homicide detectives are searching for a Toronto driver after a fatal hit-and-run Monday.

Police said that just before the crash, the driver was heading north on George.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

He has since been identified by police as 27-year-old Steven Doyle, of no fixed address.

Witness reports suggest the driver may have deliberately hit the victim, but police haven’t confirmed that detail.

The van fled the scene, striking a bicycle and another vehicle before being abandoned a short distance away. “They are looking for a slimly-built, brown-skinned man, between 5’8 to 5’10”, with dark-brown shoulder-length hair. He was wearing a dark shirt and prescription glasses with rectangular frames.

Police are asking anyone who may have information to come forward.
