A man tipped off authorities after he saw Thomas throwing out garbage in a vacant lot across from her home. He asked her what she was doing, and when she said she was getting ready to move, he offered to help her pack.

After a while, however, the man who was helping Smith began to feel something very wrong. “Sheborah Thomas” children had been temporarily taken away from her by child welfare officials in 2012 after one of them had been found wandering the streets with an intoxicated homeless man. According to a probable cause affidavit read during a court hearing before a magistrate judge today, Thomas told police that after she picked up her 7-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter from daycare late last week, she fed them and then prepared a bath for them. Although there have been no reports of Thomas having a history of mental illness, her home was previously visited by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. “He thought she was joking”, Houston police spokesperson Kese Smith said.
Police said Monday that 30-year-old Sheborah Latrice Thomas told investigators she drowned the boy and girl in a bathtub Friday, wrapped them in sheets and put their bodies in a trash can near her house.
Authorities allege Thomas first drowned her daughter in her home’s bathtub and then did the same to her son.

A woman who identified herself as the aunt of the victims expressed horror at her sister-in-law’s alleged crime. Yates ended up being sent to a mental hospital. The mother from Houston did have a third child, a 12-year-old boy. He, however, was with his father at the time of the incident. She then rolled the bodies underneath a neighbour’s house, according to the affidavit.
The mother from Houston is now in jail with no bond.

Police said the case was under investigation and did not release details about a motive for the killings. “It’s just hurtful. Those children didn’t deserve that”.
