Rio 2016: Rose welcomes Luis Figo’s Olympic golf interest
Britain’s Justin Rose was listening to “God Save The Queen” and watching the Union Jack rise into the sky on August 14 while still trying to fully appreciate the historic Olympic gold medal around his neck.

But 2013 US Open champion Rose, ranked ninth this week, and new world number four Stenson, who won his first major at last month’s British Open, staged a shotmaking classic where the lead swung back and forth and displayed world-class golf skills. “It’s the opportunity of a lifetime and I’m thrilled I came here”.
“It was always going to be tough and it came down to the last shots”.
That put all of the pressure on Henrik and turned out to be the winning moment, with everyone in the game happy for Justin.
“I think it was very important for Olympic golf going forward”, Rose said. He said he was very, very proud and he said he was pulling for me.
“Even though we haven’t had as many gold medals as we would have loved to, I’ve heard silver medal-wise it’s the most we’ve had in any Olympic Games which is very impressive”.
American Matt Kuchar said the Rose-Stenson showdown spoke volumes about why golf and the Olympics were good for each other ahead of the 2017 International Olympic Committee rethink.
It’s going to be massive experience for the two girls, Leona Maguire and Stephanie Meadow, who are both going to be outsiders.
The last time a women’s event was staged immediately after a men’s tournament on the same course was the 2014 US Open/Women’s US Open at Pinehurst, prompting concerns about the conditions. It is not just golf fans.
It’s quite a humble place to be, as there’s no five-star treatment and everybody is on a level playing field, which is one of the endearing things about the Olympics.
“In terms of what can we do better, there are all details that we can improve”.
“If I end up holding the gold medal at the end of Saturday and standing on the podium, I think it’ll be extra special”.
It could be their scores combined, an element of foursomes or maybe another medal, even it’s only 36 holes, of mixed golf. “I would never want to take away the two majors I won, but I think that’s going to be the same for the Olympics”.
We have all been getting inspired by going to all of these other sports in the evenings.
