Troops kill 5 civilians at anti-India protests in Kashmir

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar today described Pakistan as “hell” while asserting that yesterday, soldiers in Kashmir prevented five terrorists from crossing the border into India.

The spokesperson confirmed that the provincial government has asked the federal government to take up the said “confessional statement” at a proper forum to further expose the destructive role of the nuclear-armed neighbour in the province.

He said the Pakistani state is employing all means at its disposal to quell the Baloch independence movement, from bombing Baloch populations, to the use of chemical weapons.

India accuses Pakistan of arming and training Kashmiri rebels who have been fighting for independence or for a merger with Pakistan since 1989.

As a matter of fact, the successive Prime Ministers of India have never touched upon the sensitive issue of Balochistan.

It’s a massive political masterstroke by PM Modi – a clear departure in India’s Kashmir policy. “This will unfortunately create more confusion and will give an opportunity to Pakistan to raise the issue and win sympathies of the people”, he added.

“I wouldn’t speak to Mr Modi’s comments, that would be for him to speak to”, Trudeau said.

Responding to Modi’s remarks, Pakistan said his references to Balochistan and PoK were an attempt to divert world attention from the “grim tragedy” that has been unfolding in Jammu and Kashmir.

The disputed Himalayan region has been extremely tense since government troops killed a popular rebel leader almost six weeks ago. While Pakistan condemns Indian security forces in Kashmir, human rights groups have expressed concern about disappearances and extrajudicial killings in Balochistan by Pakistan’s military, intelligence and paramilitary forces.

The dispute over Kashmir dates from the partition of the subcontinent in 1947. What is Balochistan? What are its issues? Pakistan is doing some atrocities to Balochistan, then the U.S.is doing something in Iraq and England is doing something in Libya and any other country, we are not concerned. The Congress party believes there are serious human rights violations in Balochistan and the voice of democratic dissent is being suppressed by Pakistani agencies and forces.

“When a prime minister says something of this nature on Independence Day, he’s not floating a balloon”, Malik said.
