In just 15 seconds, as explosions echoed along the Strip, the Riv’s 17-story Monte Carlo Tower (not to be confused with the Monte Carlo resort) collapsed into clouds of dust.

The casino and hotel was the first high-rise on the Vegas Strip and for years was one of the city’s most famous casinos.
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, which now owns the property, plans to use the land as additional outdoor meeting space. The casino closed in May of last year after being open for 60 years.
The demolition job began in June when the Monaco tower was brought down and the video below shows the destruction of the Monte Carlo tower.
But with the final implosion, the Riviera that was home to some of the biggest entertainers in Las Vegas history, including Liberace and Frank Sinatra, will be wiped off the map. However, those who happened to be in the area in the early hours of Tuesday morning were greeted by a blast they won’t soon forget.

The Riviera, which had 110,000 square feet of gaming space, was the backdrop in a number of popular movies, including “Casino”, “Ocean’s Eleven”, and “The Hangover”.
