A statement from the Federal Aviation Administration says the Piper PA-31 went down in trees while approaching Tuscaloosa Regional Airport.
The plane crashed in the wooded area of Van de Graaff Park just off Robert Cardinal Airport Road. She expects to have a preliminary report on the crash in approximately 10 days. Both reports will be available on the NTSB’s website once they are completed.
The six victims of a Sunday plane crash just east of Tuscaloosa Regional Airport are from MS, according to media reports.
All six people killed were returning from a dental conference in Florida and were headed to Oxford when the plane tried to make an emergency landing. The crash, which occurred close to Northport, Alabama, involved a plane travelling to Oxford. In lieu of flowers trust funds for the children as well as scholarships in the names of the deceased are being structured and that information will be released at a later date. The Chicago Tribune reported that FAA records said that the twin-engine airplane was manufactured in 1984.
Kenmer arrived in Tuscaloosa this morning to document the wreckage, photographing the scene.
Gilliand says she goes flying often with a pilot at her company.
Friends and family said the six parents had unquestionable integrity, describing them as their athletic children’s biggest fans. I know all of them. His plane dropped out of the sky 50 seconds into the flight.
Messages left for the Tuscaloosa County Coroner, the Tuscaloosa Police Department and emails to the Tuscaloosa Mayor’s Office have not yet been returned.
Tributes have poured in for the victims and the neighbourhood of Oxford remains in shock.

Kenmer finished by thanking all of the first responders, noting “they’ve been working very hard and have been very diligent throughout this process”.
