Rodgers will likely rest in Packers’ first preseason game

Aaron Rodgers threw for 60.7 percent of his passes for 3,821 yards and 31 touchdowns to lead the Packers.

When Nelson went down in the preseason previous year, many knew how huge of a loss it was, but I don’t think we understood to how big of an extent the loss was going to be. “That’s the most important part”. However, the Packers will need the majority of their players to be healthy if ever they want to make a run for a possible playoff spot this coming season. An already depleted Cleveland receiving group lost first-year player Rannell Hall to an ankle injury in the third quarter after he had two catches for 27 yards.

The turnaround will be quick, as the Browns practice only three times before hosting Atlanta on Thursday night at FirstEnergy Stadium.

“He got off to a very good start, had some very good physical plays, had the sack”, Capers said. “You’ve got to make the most of it”. “Truth of the matter is right now we have yet to play a preseason game. I have to go out and show what I can do”. If Rodgers, the quarterback, can have his full offensive attack on the field for the majority of the season, he shouldn’t have a problem getting back to the level of the 4,000-plus yard seasons we have come to expect from them.

“You might occasionally throw some no-look passes out there”, Rodgers said, smiling but emphasizing he’s not totally goofing off in doing so. Head Coach Mike McCarthy praised Callahan for the drive. Wesley College’s Joe Callahan started the game, playing in the first half, while Marquise Williams from North Carolina took reps in the second half.

Griffin, the 2011 Heisman Trophy victor who signed with the Browns after being dumped by the Redskins in March, went 4 of 8 for 67 yards with an interception.

Not to be outdone too badly, the Browns also got a safety for the game’s first points.

“I think in general, since we’ve had the CBA changes, we’ve seen some different development of the young players”.

The Packers next preseason game is Thursday night against the Raiders in Green Bay.

Following Monday’s practice Jeff Janis talked to reporters after jamming up his hand in last Wednesday’s practice. On the ground, Eddie Lacy accumulated 750 yards and three touchdowns while James Starks added 148 yards and two touchdowns. He saw his role extended last season, playing in all 16 games, but made just two catches for 79 yards in the regular season.

Jordy Nelson still hasn’t returned from the PUP list, so the Packers will be keeping their eye on that.

However, he wasn’t having the best training camp this season. WR Randall Cobb practiced Sunday. OLB Clay Matthews returned to the field Sunday.

Rodgers has participated in every training camp practice this year except for one, on August 4, when he was given the day off for rest. S Morgan Burnett (back) didn’t practice for the second straight day. The Packers placed long snapper Jesse Schmitt (broken hand) on injured reserve and signed undrafted rookie center Kyle Steuck, a Green Bay native.

He also complimented Cook on his smarts and his presence in the locker room. The third-year pro was told his recovery timetable would be four to six weeks.

“Austin Davis is going to be in the concussion protocol”.
