Zack Greinke has worst outing of season in loss to Red Sox

Over the last couple of seasons, they’ve built their team around the crown jewel of their offense, the unbelievably good hitter Paul Goldschmidt, and they signed free agent ace Zack Greinke last winter to give themselves a crown jewel in the starting rotation. For the second time this season, Boston Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts blasted three home runs in a single game.

“It makes you feel pretty good anytime your name’s said with his”.

Jackie Bradley Jr. chipped in with a two-run homer for the Red Sox, who closed a six-game homestand at 4-2.

Time will show how great this young player will become, but at the moment he is one of the best all around players in the game. “So today I finally came in early and got back in that little groove”. If things keep going the way they’re going, he’ll get two chances. But with the crowd chanting “Let’s Go Mookie”, he lined out to right field in the sixth inning and grounded to third base to end the eighth.

“We play the game to win a World Series, so I’m just trying to do that”, Betts said.

“It just seemed like my stuff was really flat today”, he said.

Former National League Cy Young Award victor Zack Greinke had his second career start at Fenway Park spoiled by Betts, who took him deep in each of the first two innings before Greinke was pulled with two outs in the second to finish the worst start of his career.

4-for-6, 3 home runs, 4 runs, 8 RBI.

PHILLIES 7, ROCKIES 6: At Philadelphia, Jimmy Paredes singled, doubled, homered and drove in three runs and Philadelphia held on to complete a three-game sweep of Colorado. He added a three-run blast in the fifth.

Cesar Hernandez extended his on-base streak to 21 games with a fourth-inning walk and had an RBI single.

Anthony Rendon homered and drove in four as the Washington Nationals crushed the Atlanta Braves 9-1, keeping them 8.5 games clear at the top of the NL East.

– This is the second most runs that Greinke has ever given up.

MINNEAPOLIS – Paulo Orlando and Lorenzo Cain each had four hits and three RBIs and Kansas City Royals won a road series for the first time since late June, beating Minnesota. Arizona C Welington Castillo (bereavement list) is expected back with the team Monday.

The second-placed Miami Marlins kept pace by beating the Chicago White Sox 5-4, but Miami’s day was overshadowed by news that Giancarlo Stanton could miss the rest of the season with a groin injury suffered on Saturday.

Porcello is quietly becoming the ace of the staff and can tie Toronto’s J.A. Happ for the major-league lead with his 16th win on Sunday. Matt Wieters tripled and had a career-best five hits for the Orioles. I believe he has the qualities to do so, but it will take a deep postseason run by the Red Sox to become this years MVP. “We’ll work on that”. Farrell gave him a full day off to get treatment, and it’s possible he might need a few more, especially with an unforgiving schedule that puts the Red Sox on the road for 30 of the season’s final 46 games and doesn’t afford them another day off until September 1. RHP Josh Tomlin (11-5, 4.18) goes for the Indians.
