Takeaways From 28-24 Loss To Los Angeles Rams In Preseason Opener
But Goff played only two second-quarter series, while Sean Mannion passed for three second-half touchdowns to lead the Rams to a 28-24 victory.

In Saturday night’s preseason opener against the Dallas Cowboys, Jared Goff’s start was not so stellar to say the least.
They have Dez Bryant and Romo and Ezekiel Elliott playing with an incredible offensive line. That cry got even louder when their number two guy, Kellen Moore, went down with a broken ankle.
This should be a no-brainer.
Bryant had two receptions for 28 yards, including a leaping catch on the sideline against cornerback Coty Sensabaugh for 18 yards.
The only reason this was in question was because of how his 2015 ended.
Three rookie quarterbacks shined — and none of them were Jared Goff.
Goff’s third pass attempt was intercepted by linebacker Mark Nzeocha after being hit by linebacker Derek Akunne.
The Cowboys have praised Prescott’s poise and composure since they selected him in the fourth round of this year’s draft.
As long-awaited sequels go, “Episode 50: Return of the Rams” opened in blockbuster fashion, even if the script didn’t quite go the way the live audience of almost 90,000 probably anticipated.
Competing to be Russell Wilson’s backup, the rookie from TCU engineered a last-minute, 88-yard touchdown drive in four plays, connecting with Tanner McEvoy with a 37-yard scoring pass, and then handing the ball to Troy Pope for the 2-point conversion with no time remaining, lifting Seattle past Kansas City 17-16 Saturday.
The second half was all Sean Mannion, and he took this opportunity and ran (more so passed) with it.
There was a lot of pageantry surrounding the game – and some big prices. Two of his passes, including an impressive throw over the middle, were dropped.
It was a preseason game with the electricity of a playoff game.
While Goff and Keenum are the names getting the attention, Mannion should be the one getting the love after his performance. Terrance Williams led in receiving with 840 yards and three touchdowns while Jason Witten added 713 yards and three touchdowns.
Garrett said Prescott wasn’t ideal, pointed out a messed-up play call and saying the rookie might have made some better decisions. We’ve got some really good practices in – offseason, training camp – and feel like he’s progressing very, very well and we’re going to strive for making that our goal every day.
Prescott sat out the second half as the Cowboys’ other backup, Jameill Showers, led the offense.
Another potential starting cornerback, E.J. Gaines, did not play because of a hamstring injury, and the Rams chose not to play defensive end Robert Quinn (who is in the final stages of recovery from a back injury) and Gurley.
