A man suspected of fatally shooting a Georgia police officer was caught in Florida, officials confirmed to ABC News.

As of Monday, the Telfair County Sheriff’s Office canceled the BOLO alert for Deeds and announced they had Deeds in custody.

About 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Dodge County 911 received a call for a suspicious person near an intersection in Eastman.

Smith was white, and Deeds is black.

Dutton confirmed 30-year-old Smith had been dispatched on a call about a suspicious person with a gun in a residential area of the rural city.

Smith had a conversation with the alleged gunman while standing outside of his patrol vehicle.

A $15,000 reward was offered in the manhunt for Deeds.

The officer was shot in Eastman, a small town an hour from Macon, Georgia. He says an unidentified suspect is being sought and an investigation is ongoing. He is survived by three children.

Smith, a father of three, could have turned 31 on Monday, authorities said.

Officer Smith leaves behind two sons, a daughter and a stepson, according to his fiancee Chelsea Clark, interviewed by CNN.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation had released a photo of Deeds, 24, and sought help from the public in finding him after he fled the scene where Smith was shot the evening of August 13, The Atlanta Journal Constitution said.

The shooting occurred outside the Gallery Apartments when three officers responded to a call about people breaking into cars, Wallace said. Both were arrested on out-of-state warrants for hindering the apprehension of a fugitive.
