Besides the always juicy Mexico vs. Puerto Rico rivalry that the sport has given us in the past, the fight should be an entertaining one. “In this case, the fans have spoken out, longing for this fight and it is my pleasure to say that is it finally happening”. “It will hold a special place in history as part of the big rivalry between Mexico and Puerto Rico, and I promise all the fans that this is going to be an event that will not disappoint”.

PUNCHLINES: Yormark said that super middleweight champion Andre Ward is under consideration to be added to the November 21 undercard… a press is tour being planned and will be announced next week for Cotto-Alvarez, Yormark said.

“The great rivalry between Mexico and Puerto Rico has a rich history in the sport of boxing”.

Miguel Cotto will defend his middleweight world title against two-time champ Canelo Alvarez. Alvarez most recently knocked out James Kirkland in the third round in May in Houston.

Because of his popularity, Cotto has wielded the issue of catch-weights over his opponents, forcing bigger fighters such as Daniel Geale and Sergio Martinez to bend to his demands and fight lower than the 160-pound weight limit.

David Itskowitch, head of Roc Nation’s boxing division (who represents Cotto) has confirmed that they have agreed to a “step aside deal” with Gennady “GGG” Golovkin, who is the WBC mandatory challenger.

Can be effectively marketed as an action fight.

As a huge boxing fan, this is a fight I’ve waited to see for a long time and it should be fantastic. “We want to make sure everything’s agreed upon”. “We look forward to hosting these two great warriors in November as they deliver boxing fans worldwide a thrilling night from inside the Mandalay Bay Events Center”.

Still, Cotto or Alvarez could relinquish his WBC belt if they would like to have a rematch, which as was just mentioned the former is not keen on accepting. They both have enormous fan bases, bring exciting and aggressive styles to the ring and are well-known for having been in major pay-per-view fights, including against pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather, who won decisions against both of them in two of the biggest-selling and most lucrative fights in history.
