Milwaukee officer targeted by online threats after shooting

CNN aired an edited clip of the suspect’s sister, Sherelle Smith, asking protesters to be peaceful. Police said Smith fled a traffic stop and turned toward the officer with a gun before he was shot. He says no one set out to cause trouble but says violence by police officers is the real issue.

Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn says there are concerns for the safety of the officer who shot and killed Sylville Smith on Saturday. The officers claim they then instructed Smith to drop the gun and began firing when he didn’t comply, fatally striking him once in the chest and once in the arm.

“The individuals who are doing this are making it more hard – not less hard – to attract investments and jobs in the very neighborhoods where we need them the most”, Mr. Barrett said, Fox News reported Monday.

“My son is gone due to the police killing my son”, said Smith’s mother according to The Post.

A few hours after the shooting, violence erupted on the city’s largely black north side, with protesters hurling rocks at police and burning six businesses. But Smith prompted concern when she suggested that rioters take their burning and looting “to the suburbs”. Sherelle Smith spoke to members of her community and told them that they need to take their violence somewhere else. We need our shit! We need our weave.

“I’ve gotta start with my kids and we gotta change our ways, to be better role models”, Smith said. “But we need it”.

On Flynn’s suggestion that members of his party were responsible for any violence, Dix said: “If anybody wants to allege that our people were actually committing those acts, they should bring that to us”.

From violent protests where bricks were thrown at police that injured numerous officers to looting of local businesses, setting police cars on fire, and even targeting and beating white people, parts of Milwaukee are almost unrecognizable.
